The glow plugs on my tractor are the sheathed type and appear not to work although they draw current. Is this something that needs to be pulled and cleaned or do they fail but continue to draw current.

Kia the ones I'm used to working with will draw power till you get to the bad one. Remove them and use a 100amp minimum battery charger to test them, they should show red and or heat. cleaning won't make a difference. Different types and designs work differently and its adviseable to know how they are supposed to work. Some glow plugs have to be on for up to 90 seconds to do there work and some only need a 10 second time to start. I have seen people try and do the work you are asking about and I would recommend you find a local technician to do the work. It often is cheaper in the long run than to make a mistake or to. ....
